3. Create the product
You do this once for each product. The command takes a few minutes, and most of them are downloads.
You start with: pages 1 and 2 done, and a name for the product.
You finish with: a hub and an app on GitHub, the checks passing, CI and the review deployed, and the panel open in Herdr.
#Choose a shape
| Your product | Use |
|---|---|
| One AdonisJS app, with its pages in the same app | new-project fieldnote |
| One AdonisJS API, with frontend apps or shared packages | new-project fieldnote --monorepo |
You can read more in Monorepos. With no --owner, the repositories go under your own GitHub account. For an organization, add --owner your-org.
#The steps
#Run the command
Keep Herdr open, then run this in a terminal:
new-project fieldnote --monorepoYou should see: a line for each stage. It creates the app, installs Flow, runs the checks, creates the hub, and connects AWS.
#Add the repository to both apps
The two GitHub Apps can only see the repositories that you add to them. This repository is new, so the command can stop here, and print this:
Cannot connect your-account/fieldnote. The AWS connection most likely cannot see it yet. This is normal for a new repository. The product is ready, with no CI yet. Open the two links that it prints, and add
fieldnoteto each app. Then run:connect-repo your-account/fieldnote --app-path apps/apiFor one app and no monorepo, leave out
--app-path apps/api.You should see:
your-account/fieldnote has CI (fieldnote-ci) and the Flow review (fieldnote-review).#Open the panel
The command opens a new space in Herdr, named
fieldnote-hub, with a tab named Factory. You should see: the Factory tab, with five empty columns.
If the tab is not there, see Open the panel.
#What it made
- ~/code/fieldnote/
- fieldnote/The app. You rarely open this.
- fieldnote-hub/The hub. Agents run here.
- context/What the product is
- tasks/One file for each change
- explorations/One folder for each question
- inbox.mdIdeas that are not work yet
- repos/fieldnote/A copy of the app for the agents
#You are done when
- Both repositories are on GitHub, and they are private.
connect-repoprinted its success line.- The Factory tab shows an empty board.
#Next
The board is empty, and it stays empty until you know what the product is. Go to 4. Set the direction.
